What skills are recruiters looking for?

Many people are currently looking for a new opportunity in the New Year whether it is a promotion or a new role. But what is going to make you stand out from the crowd? Studies show that 2 in 3 British workers think they have the perfect skills for their new job however recruiters think differently.

The research shows a range of skills that applicants are underestimating when applying for roles. These include commercial awareness, stakeholder management, strategy and change and the ability to calculate and communication return on investment. Corinne Mills at Personal Career Management stated:

‘In the current competitive job market, it’s not only important for candidates to show they can do the job today, they must also show they are likely to be an asset for the future.’

Although candidates may already have these effective skills, 50% of recruiters believe that applicants struggle to identify key skills when applying for a role and this can massively impact on the decision making for the position.

We usually use recruitment agencies, however for this particular vacancy it seemed more appropriate to try a cheaper recruitment option.
