Why advertising your roles over Christmas and the New Year is a good idea

There is a myth within recruitment that I would like to bust.

This idea that you can’t recruit in December and that you should wait until the New Year is one held by many companies that I have spoken to over the last few years but I’m here to tell you that you are potentially missing out on your ‘perfect’ candidate by subscribing to such a notion.

The Christmas and New Year period is a time to spend with your family and friends but it is also the time we take to reflect on the previous year and look towards the new one. We set ourselves resolutions to improve our health, our experiences and ultimately our lives. For many people, this will involve looking for a new challenge in their career.

The majority of companies may work with skeleton staff for the 3 day period after Boxing Day giving their staff the opportunity to reflect, load up a job board and look for that new challenge. If you make the decision to wait until the new year, these candidates may find another opportunity or they may get cold feet and stick with their current role.

Our adverts are live for 28 (or 56) days, which will give you applicants from over the Christmas period but will also be live throughout the majority of January giving you the best of both worlds.

We usually use recruitment agencies, however for this particular vacancy it seemed more appropriate to try a cheaper recruitment option.
